Voting for the 2019-20 VRC has been extended by the VSRA to September 30!
Ashland will be voting in September and the Hall of Fame party will be held then.
5th graders will be voting June 5 and I will try to have a celebration with them when the school reopens.

Ashland ES Library participates in a contest called the Virginia Readers’ Choice Program (VRC) sponsored by the Virginia State Reading Association (VSRA).

Books are selected based on the quality and age of the book. There are 4 categories in the program based on reading levels.  Ten books are selected (nominated) for each category.  We participate in the Primary Category (gr. K-3) and the Elementary Category (gr. 3-5).  Third graders get to pick which category they want.  To make it less confusing, I call the Elementary category Intermediate.

Students who read 4 or more books from a category may vote.  Children across the state will vote in April on their favorite books.  The book in each category with the most votes wins the Virginia Readers’ Choice Award for the year.  Children can read, listen to, or have someone read the book to or with them.

Students can get a bookmark with the list of books in the library.  We have multiple copies of the VRC nominees in the library.  Students are limited to check out one VRC book at a time, but the PWP Library also has copies of the books.  For more information you can go to the VSRA website.
